The social network

A review of the film by Kevin Flores

The year was 2003. As prohibitively expensive technology became affordable to the masses and the Internet made it easy to stay in touch with people who were halfway across the world, Harvard undergrad and computer programming wizard Mark Zuckerberg launched a website with the potential to alter the very fabric of our society. At the time, Zuckerberg was just six years away from making his first million. But his hearty payday would come at a high price, because despite all of Zuckerberg’s wealth and success, his personal life began to suffer as he became mired in legal disputes, and discovered that many of the 500 million people he had friended during his rise to the top were eager to see him fall. Chief among that growing list of detractors was Zuckerberg’s former college friend Eduardo, whose generous financial contributions to Facebook served as the seed that helped the company to sprout. And some might argue that Zuckerberg’s bold venture wouldn’t have evolved into the cultural juggernaut that it ultimately became had Napster founder Sean, not spread the word about Facebook to the venture capitalists from Silicon Valley. Meanwhile, the Winklevoss twins engage Zuckerberg in a fierce courtroom battle for ownership of Facebook that left many suspecting the young entrepreneur might have let his greed eclipse his better judgment. Worth 19.8billion he ends up winning the case leaving the winkleVoss twins infuriated.

Review : Macbeth by William Shakespeare

macbeth

The following is a punchy piece of writing by a guest blogger NICHOLAS UNWIN a student at Chelmsford College. Sit back and enjoy.

Macbeth was written by William Shakespeare. Macbeth has an ambition to become the King of Scotland, and he had a wife who wanted to be the Queen of Scotland. Macbeth spoke to the 3 witches who predictied that he would be King. Macbeth told his wife who helped him to decide to kill King Duncan and his son. Macbeth was made King of Scotland but he wasnt happy because he didnt trust nobody and continued with his killing spree. Macbeth had dark visions of killing his best friend Banquo. He killed banquo but his son Fleance escapes which made Macbeth furious and his fury made him go to macduffs castle to kill lady macduff and her son. When macduff returned to his castle he had gathered a small army to attack macbeth and lady macbeth kills herself because she cannot live with the death of Duncan. Macbeth and his army hide behind cut bushes as cover and attack and killed macbeth in his castle which resulted Macbeths head on a pike.

The 3 witches are evil, Macbeth was influenced by them and macduff kills him to stop his evil doings.

Nicholas added a great link to a blog all about Shakespeare and his world.

Putting the best foot forward

football

Keeping it real, Jake Lee a student from Chelmsford College as well as a guest blogger reports on an intense match :

Cristiano Ronaldo see`s Portugal through to the World cup.

Last night’s 2nd leg FIFA world cup qualifier between Sweden and Portugal saw Portugal leading 1-0 on aggregate. To both teams this is a vital game as the winner gets a spot in the 2014 FIFA world cup in Brazil. The brilliance of Ronaldo sunk the hearts of the Swedish home crowd as they witnessed a football legend on top of his game in such an important clash.
Ronaldo`s aggressive and explosive play added the spice needed to complete his fifth hat trick of the season as he scored on 3 occasions against a wary Swedish side. He remained a constant threat for the entire duration of the game with 12 shots on target which is the most by any player in FIFA world cup history in qualifier matches. This performance also saw Ronaldo overtake Pauleta making him Portugal’s all time leading goal scorer.

The Portugal forward rarely made a mistake and remained a physical threat turning chances into success for his side. Ronaldo had also scored the only goal in the first leg between the 2 sides and this performance in particular is being tipped for him to receive the Ballon D`or Award which is given to the best player in the world yearly.
